7.5 Reasons to Enjoy Winter

In honor of the first few snowflakes this morning in our area, I give you 7.5 reasons to enjoy winter….or at least try.

My guess is there are two types of people that will read this-  those that wonder how I could only think of 7.5 (yes, it is a little sad), and those who want to peer out of a stack of blankets long enough to laugh in my face (in a nice way, of course) at the thought of trying to enjoy winter!  Well, let’s hope all of you enjoy it either way….

I don’t like it(although I feel compelled to appreciate ALL of God’s seasons), but I have a few reasons that I am going to try to think about in the freezing-est moments.  I will share my list to help others who aren’t fond of chills invading either.  Hopefully, it will make it seem at least a teeny bit better with these happy thoughts in mind. 🙂  Those of you who enjoy the miniscule numbers on a thermometer, feel very invited to leave a comment at the bottom sharing all the reasons why you love winter- I’m sure I’ve missed some, and it will help all the rest of us endure it better!  That being said, here goes….

1.Christmas!!! I love the holiday where we celebrate the Greatest Gift by giving to others. 🙂

2.Winter makes us enjoy the other seasons in all their various beauty even more!

3.No bugs, or fewer at least….

4.Beautiful snow on the trees, fields, cars….Oh, scratch that last one- we’re keeping this positive!

5.Sensible snuggling-  During the summer, snuggling is out of the question because of the heat (unless some people you know like to keep the AC at arctic temperatures!)

6.More opportunities to accessorize!  During the summer, it can be a little difficult to accessorize as much as you want to, merely for fear of suffocating.  Not so with winter!  You can layer on as much as your heart desires, and still feel the frost nipping at your nose!  I get to wear all  the knitted accessories I have made for myself, and observe all the accessories my family members aren’t wearing that I made for them.  O_o  Oh well, you can’t win them all!

7.Coming home to a warm house.  There is a very different feeling between coming home to air conditioning and coming home to a warm house.  There just is.  A warm house just makes it seem so much like a homey-home.  Side note:  I am SO looking forward to the day when our fireplace is up and running….That’ll be the day!

7.5.More time spent indoors with family- this point could also be on the top 7.5 worst reasons to enjoy winter (you may or may not see that blog post come out late January to early February….). This one only gets a half because it’s great to be cooped up with people you love, until Cabin Fever starts developing.

Originally when I commenced writing this blog post, there were going to be 10 reasons.  However, being a fan of all things warm (including summer!), I didn’t succeed at reaching that number, so please enjoy the 7 (and a half) that I did come up with.  If you need something new to help you keep warm, please check out my Etsy shop, To Knit or Knot?.  Until next time then!  I shall now go wrap myself up in a blanket of wooliest-warmth, and recite these to myself over and over, until I have to make a public outing.  Just kidding, I don’t exactly have time for that, but it sounds wonderful…. Oh!  Here’s a bonus reason-  Hot chocolate.  I love  hot chocolate…. or any type of chocolate really!  Have a lovely day, and stay warm!

  1. Great post, from your winter LOVING friend! 😉
A few more reasons to enjoy the beautiful season…
Snow ball fights, sledding with friends, ice skating.
Seeing how God preserves life and prepares it to spring up anew.
Watching the sun glisten on the sparkling flakes that look like a million diamonds gives me a tiny taste of the glories of heaven!

  2. Love it! Love every reason (’cause I love winter). =) Although, by the end of February, winter really does help me appreciate spring all the more!
And I have another for ya: The crisp, squeaky crunch of footfalls on a freshly snowed ground.
    And sweaters.
And red-cheeked faces peeking out from knitted hats and furry coats.
    And along with hot chocolate…tea!
And I really agree with reason number 3. 😉
Thanks for the fun post and smile!
