The Liebster Strikes Again!

If you normally read this blog, you may have noticed that I normally only post on Thursdays….or maybe you haven’t, no problem, I just thought maybe….  Anyway, something happened- I was liebstered twice in one week!  So in order to keep up here and not have two Liebster posts two weeks in a row– I’ll just do two in one week!  Isn’t that considerate of me?  I’m only thinking of my marvelous readers. 🙂

Summary of the ramble above: there will be an extra post this week. So here we go…

I would like to thank Renee, from One Sip at a Time for nominating me for my second Liebster.  I greatly, super-really, hugely appreciate it.  It would be extremely nice of you all to check out her blog(hint, hint….)  Thanks again Renee! 🙂

Mork and Mindy- it’s old-ish, but worth looking up. 🙂

10. If you could travel to any place in the world, where would you go and why?

11. Favorite pastime?

Knitting for sure!

I nominate these blogs:

You Don’t Know Whatcha Got….

….Until it’s gone.

Have you experienced this truth?  Or are you just an unnaturally grateful individual? 🙂 For me, I like to think that I am thankful for many things(granted, not as much as I should be), but there are still times when this rings true in my life.  I don’t even see it coming!  In some cases, it is something that has been in my life for so long that I don’t even think about being grateful for it- it’s part of my everyday life!  I guess that means I should look for opportunities to be appreciative, huh?

Anyway…. After my slightly dramatic introduction, you are probably thinking that I had a major loss in my life.  You should be relieved to know that it’s not that at all.  It was just a little-ish thing that happened to our scenic drive on the way home.  I’ll divulge. 🙂

My family and I live in the country, if that hadn’t been made clear before.  So if you hear frequent reference to farm animals(we got our pigs last week, by the way!) or other things that would be difficult to do in a city, it’s because we live in the country!  We have to travel about fifteen minutes at least to get anywhere of consequence.  That’s just the way it is.  To some people of our acquaintance, that seems rather extreme. But after doing it for a while we got accustomed to it, and now it’s just a regular part of life.  I’m *not* taking it for granted here.  😉  Having a longer trip home, quite a few things can be done!  Knitting, reading, talking about where you are headed/coming from, relaxing in the car, just enjoying the music and thinking, knitting….There’s lots of things you can do!  Oh!  There’s also playing on your electronic device of choice, and knitting.

Now, to the part where I was taking something for granted-  Since we live in the country, you are free to assume it’s as beautiful as you want.  There are hills, trees, creeks and/or streams, curvy bumpy roads, cows on a hill(my mom loves that, because it always reminds her of Psalm 50:10), and other agricultural things.  Lots and lots of stuff to look at.  Except when you occasionally come across some fields, and it does happen sometimes, I’ll tell you that.  A neighbor we had once put it this way-  Instead of house after house, you get to drive past field after field of corn, corn, corn, beans, corn, beans, corn, and corn.  Lots of corn.  But you’ve got to have a lot of corn for all those cows!  On to the next paragraph, because I took up this one talking about corn and cows….

So before we get to the corn and cows on our way home, we drive down a highway with hills and (used to be) trees.  However, in the last week there has been a change to that.  The men in fluorescent green and orange came with their humongous toys and dug up a lot of trees and multiple front yards of the poor people who live along this highway.  I’m sure it is for a ‘good cause’, like widening the sad, little highway, with no shoulder and ruts all over the place.  At least we are hoping that’s what it is, because if it is for any less-noble reason, there will be a large amount of displeasure throughout the area.

This is what I took for granted- my scenic drive home.  Thankfully, there are other ways to get places.  But we take this route fairly frequently I would say, and it just looks so sad!  Just as everything was starting to turn green too.  In fact, just because of how awful it looks, I’ve decided that it reminds me of something like you would see in Michael Jackson’s “Earth Song” video.  I’m not saying it is that dramatic, but it’s also not just one tree cut down, or a few branches pruned.  It’s dirt being turned over for at least a mile along the current highway, and anything that happens to be on top of it being taken out as well.

I took the beauty around me as I drive places for granted.  Like I said, not a huge deal.  But, it still made me think.  Right now I’m thinking we’d better get one fancy highway out of this!  And of course that nothing should be taken for granted. 🙂  I hope you have a lovely day and enjoy everything that is in your life!

The Fifth of March

Well, howdy do!  It’s the fifth of March, also the 1st Thursday of the 3rd month of 2015.  Just a reminder- this weekend is also Daylight Savings.  Losing one hour of sleep one day for an extra hour of sunshine every day after that?  I’ll take it. 🙂

So, it is now March!  Spring and warm weather is getting closer and closer.  I can’t say that I can *feel* it yet, because it’s still cold.  But I know it’s coming.  And knowing that spring is coming, my family has started preparing for it!

First, my mom ordered chicks.  We have full-grown chickens right now, but their egg-laying/food-eating ratio isn’t working out too well- they eat too much food, and don’t lay enough eggs.  So every few years we get new chickens.  This is the year to get them.  I’m not sure exactly which breed she got, but I’m sure it’s a good one.  She had talked about getting a breed that when she said it, sounded like ‘Hawaiian goats’.  I’m sure that’s not what she said, but that sure is what it sounded like.  Can you imagine what Hawaiian goats would look like though?  It’s quite the mental picture, you know, with the grass skirts and all. 🙂  Our little farm will also be holding chickens used for meat, for a time at least, until their residence moves to our freezer.  Which reminds me….

My dad ordered pigs!  Or at least I think it’s in the works?  Anywho, we should be getting more swine soon.  Raising pigs has only been tried once before, but it went pretty well so we are doing it again!  There were two here last year.  Their names were Sausage and Bacon.  Can you guess where they are now?  Yup, I don’t think I need to confirm your educated guess….

And finally, we have started planting.  Very minimal planting.  So minimal it fits in the house somewhere.  I’m not sure exactly what seed(s) it was that found its way into dirt, but I was informed after I got home from work yesterday that the planting has commenced.  At this point I am still looking forward to working out in our garden, in the hot dirt, under the sun, multitasking by trying to get a tan(probably wishful thinking right there….) and weed or plant at the same time.  That will likely change mid-summer, but it might not.  We shall see. 🙂

So now you know what we are doing to prepare for spring, once it comes again. 🙂  Until then, I will stay inside, knit some black and red socks for a coworker, and watch the snow and ice melt, among other things.  Which reminds me, I need to finish some bread I am making….

Well, thank you as always for reading!  If so inclined, let me know what you do to prepare for spring!  Have a lovely week, and don’t forget to switch your clocks this weekend!  Trust me, I know from experience that being an hour off of everyone else(especially an hour behind) is not a good way to start a week.  So there ya go, take it from someone who knows.  🙂  Happy March 5th!  Or whatever day it is that you are reading this….
