Tag….You’re It!

I have inadvertently gotten myself tagged, thanks to Glaiza.  She has a lovely blog, Glimmer of Happiness, and at the end of her Love-Hate post, she tags everyone who read it.  Obviously, I had to follow through!

I’ve seen tags before, but never done one.  This particular tag looks fun!  It will most likely consist of me sitting in front of a computer for an hour trying to come up with 20 things I either love or hate.  How hard can it be?  Well, if you know me very well at all, you know have a terrible time making decisions.  But I’ll give it a go anyway.

Rules: Share 10 things you love and 10 things you hate, then nominate up to 10 blogs to do the same.

I’m going to do it a little differently though, and start with the hate.  That way, I get to end on a positive note and tell you all the stuff I love.  Saving the best for last, in other words. 🙂

Stuff I dislike, but don’t really hate, because there are very few things I really hate, and it’s a very strong word…..And here they are:

  1. Wasps.  I think it’s fairly safe to say I actually hate wasps
  2. Spiders.  Definitely not my favorite either, but not as bad as wasps.
  3. Being late.  I can’t stand being late.  And it can’t even be called “fashionably late” because I’m just not that fashionable.
  4. Eating fish.  Shrimp are about the only seafood I like, other than salmon in one particular dish that my mom makes.
  5. Plucking chickens.
  6. Being the center of attention in a large group, and having to utter words.  It’s the worst.
  7. Other people wearing my clothes.  It’s fine if they ask first, but if that hasn’t been done I really don’t appreciate it.
  8. Being cold.  Especially my hands and feet, which are always cold.
  9. Having a fan blowing on me.  There is something about the inconsistency and the cool air together that really bugs me.
  10. Being unsure of where I am driving.  This is why it is best to have a GPS.  I have my sister instead, and believe me- she’s much less annoying when giving directions than any automated person is.  There is also my iphone, which is muted in such cases as to avoid being bossed around by….it.

Thing-a-ma-bobs I love, in no particular order:

  1. My family
  2. Knitting!!!! And knitting!!!! And knitting!!!!  If you haven’t seen Peewee Herman….never mind.  I love knitting.
  3. My room.  It’s my favorite place when I get to knit and listen to music, or have a nice talk with someone.
  4. Music.  Have you heard the phrase “Life without music would B♭”?  Those are my sentiments exactly….
  5. Chocolate, especially M&Ms, but chocolate in general.
  6. Spring.  The flowers are blooming, the weather is beautiful, and spring fever sets in.
  7. Getting messages( be it email, text, or real mail like pen and paper stuff) from friends for no particular reason, just because. 🙂
  8. Being with my good and true friends.
  9. Snuggling with little kids.  Pretty much doing anything with children, actually!
  10. Butterflies.  I love butterflies.

And there ya go!  Hopefully you weren’t bored reading those.  I know some of them are fairly obvious, but maybe you were surprised by some of them.  And following Glaiza’s example….If you read this, tag!  You’re it!!!  I’d love to read what you mildly detest, loathe with your whole being, kind of like, or just really love.  I didn’t want to have to follow the rules and pick just 10 bloggers….So I picked all of you! Have a great weekend, and thanks for reading!

The Liebster Strikes Again!

If you normally read this blog, you may have noticed that I normally only post on Thursdays….or maybe you haven’t, no problem, I just thought maybe….  Anyway, something happened- I was liebstered twice in one week!  So in order to keep up here and not have two Liebster posts two weeks in a row– I’ll just do two in one week!  Isn’t that considerate of me?  I’m only thinking of my marvelous readers. 🙂

Summary of the ramble above: there will be an extra post this week. So here we go…

I would like to thank Renee, from One Sip at a Time for nominating me for my second Liebster.  I greatly, super-really, hugely appreciate it.  It would be extremely nice of you all to check out her blog(hint, hint….)  Thanks again Renee! 🙂

2. Answer the 11 questions that they set

My family has two dogs, 2 pigs(for now), lots of chickens and we just got more chicks this morning!  Our dogs are Buttercup(an English Mastiff), and Thea(a dark chocolate Lab).  The chickens don’t have names for the most part, and the pigs are still pretty young- they don’t have official names yet. 🙂

9. Favorite TV/Netflix series/why?

Mork and Mindy- it’s old-ish, but worth looking up. 🙂

10. If you could travel to any place in the world, where would you go and why?

11. Favorite pastime?

Knitting for sure!

I nominate these blogs:

A Taiwanese Girl

Semper Fidelis

Conquering My Own Castle

Dainty Little Secrets

And here are my questions for you lovely bloggers!

4. Let them know about the nomination and the questions

Here I go attempting to answer Hann’s questions to the best of my ability….

I love April.  I love that the weather is getting warmer, and flowers are in bloom and summer is coming! 🙂

5. Milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white chocolate?

I’ll eat all of them with pleasure!

6. If you could speak any other language (in addition to the one you do now), what would it be?

Spanish would be handy, but I’ve always been fascinated by Hebrew or Greek for some inexplicable reason.

7. Most recent movie you’ve seen?

I saw part of “Despicable Me” with some little girls I was hanging out with.

8. Do you have any phobias?

I look forward to reading my nominees answers, and hope you do too!  Have a lovely day. 🙂

Making Cookies!

I made cookies.  From scratch.  Before you start picturing just plain chocolate chip cookies, remember to include some oatmeal bits in your imagination!  That is the type of cookies I make- chocolate chip *oatmeal* cookies.  It makes them slightly healthier, right?  Adds a little protein, and other healthy thingys.  It doesn’t affect the flavor a whole bunch, but I’ve never done a side-by-side comparison either.  Feel free to try it yourself and let me know how they compare!  ***Make sure both are homemade- comparing store-bought and homemade would be like comparing….um….. something that isn’t very comparable.  FYI, I am not good at making up examples.

Pros of homemade

Warmmmmm Cooooookies……….  They are SO good.  There are probably some really fancy hoity-toity desserts out there (that all require refrigeration!) that blow chocolate chip cookies out of the water, but a fresh-baked cookie is hard to beat in my book.  The warm, slightly crunchy-gooey cookie part, with the hot, melted chocolate chips.  Melt in your mouth type.  Good luck getting that from ‘Chips Ahoy!’.

Homemade cookies are probably healthier than your average store-bought cookie.  AND, you know exactly what you put in them!  I don’t know about you, but sometimes I speculate on exactly who or what has touched what I am putting in my mouth….

You can stick them in adorable cookie jars!  Not that we have one, I just thought I’d throw that out there.  Well, you can do that with store-bought cookies too….maybe this will just be a neutral point. 😉

Cons of homemade

Fingers are *not* in the recipe, and yet they always find their way into my cookie dough.  Mind you, they are not MY fingers…The cookie dough is minding it’s own business in the bowl where I left it, when some passerby decides that warm cookies just can’t come fast enough- so they swipe some dough while I am turned around.

Another con of homemade is that they are hard to stop eating, but the same can be said of store-bought. 😉  Those are the only cons I can think of.  Oh!  Nope, there is another.  It is far more time-consuming to make your own cookies, rather than pick up a package at the grocery store.  True dat.

Homemade cookies also don’t come with a container- you have to get your own, and try to fit all the cookies in it properly.  Sigh…. And if they don’t all fit, you just have to eat the extras!

Pros of store-bought

Store-bought cookies still taste good.  I’m not shooting down the poor little cookies that were mass-produced.  They get plenty of love too. 🙂  I have only one met one type of cookie that I do not enjoy getting acquainted with- oatmeal raisin.  Since I make chocolate chip oatmeal, it’s perfectly logical of you to assume that it is the raisin that I discriminate against. You would be right.  I do NOT  like raisins.  Anywhere or anytime.  I am an equal-opportunity raisin-disliker.  It’s a texture thing.

Another pro is that purchasing cookies, instead of making your own, is potentially cheaper.  I’ve never done a comparison.  So I don’t know.  But it seems like making your own of almost anything costs more.  Thanks for encouraging do-it-yourself-ness!

Cons of store-bought

If you give cookies to someone, it’s a much more personal gift if you make them yourself.  Like I said earlier, a cookie is a cookie- most all of them are yummy.  But still, it means a little bit more when you can say, “Here, I made these for you!”, rather than “Here, I went to the grocery store and picked these up for you”.  I’m having a hard time exactly phrasing the difference, but it’s there…. whatever it is.  At least that’s how I’m hoping my brother feels about it when a certain package filled with enough sugary stuff to rot some teeth, gets to Iowa for his birthday…..(Shhh, it’s a surprise!)  He is certainly not a picky eater, but it makes me happy to think that he would pick my cookies over a store-bought….especially when they are warm out of the oven.  This blog post (#2 so far) is dedicated to him, for his birthday.  Just in case cookies aren’t enough. 🙂

Store-bought cookies are all fairly uniform.  There are almost always none with more chocolate chips than the others…. This can be a pro sometimes, but it makes them less unique.  And you can’t make a ‘custom’ choice when taking a cookie out of the container.

Those are my pros and cons for cookies of both kinds.  Maybe you enjoyed reading it, or maybe you’re just really hating me right now because you want a cookie and you don’t care what type it is.  😛

I won’t put a picture on here, just in case you haven’t eaten yet!

Have a great day, and thanks for reading!!!
