March Madness

Here is a whole bunch of madness, exciting, out-of-the-ordinary stuff that happened in my month of March, that has absolutely nothing to do with an orange ball dressed in black stripes….I apologize for disappointing you basketball fans.

  • I got a whole bunch of new knitting magazines for under $20(it gets more interesting, I promise)
  • The girls in my family(and little brother, because he couldn’t stand to be left behind) all went to go see “Cinderella”  I liked it quite a bit!
  • My dad got a new job!  This is good because he was not happy at his last job, and needed a greater sense of accomplishment.  So yay for him. 🙂
  • My brother got a new job! Yippity-doo-da for him as well. It’s nice to have happily employed relatives. 😉
  • My sister has a new job- dressing up as a princess for birthday parties.  Totally not a job I ever saw her being excited about, but maybe I misjudged!  And there is more to it than that- she’s an intern for event-coordinating, just what she wanted!
  • I stayed at my job, it makes me happy and is a good place to work…..I just thought you’d like to know that I did not get a new job
  • I met a famous guy who came into the place where I work, although I’m not disclosing who it was because he’s already famous enough, so he doesn’t need anymore advertisement here
  • My family is enjoying the presence of little ones in our home again- we have two little girls staying with us for a couple weeks and are learning just how out of shape our little-kid-chasing muscles are
  • There was a high-speed chase on a highway my dad and I were traveling on, and we nearly got involved in it(thanks very much to the young man who nearly hit us while he was playing tag with the cops), AND we got to see the aftermath when we caught up to the party while moving with traffic.  Mr. Naughtiness was being led away by the cops.  I’m glad we got to see the results. 🙂  I’m also quite ecstatic that we didn’t die.  You can check out the whole thing here. And if you watch the video, my dad and I were passing the scene right about 02:10, but you can’t see us…. Oh well.
  • We got chicks!
  • I got my first two Liebster awards
  • My cousin released his new album- Heroes in the Making Check it out!
  • The color green made an appearance in our yard(and other places too…) again- it’s kind of the opener for spring- the main attraction 🙂 I’m pretty hyped about it
  • One of my sisters made it to 14 years old, and did it with flare
  • I went bowling, and thoroughly embarrassed myself.  But it was with friends, so I enjoyed it anyway!
  • There were several people in jail who I talked to on the phone(it comes with my job), and one was trying to give me advice on said bowling, and the other wanted me to take him partying when he comes to visit!  Haha, no.  Both of them freaked me out by calling me by name- someone in my workplace was nice enough to share that information with them, without informing me….
  • My family and I watched “Big Hero 6”  *fist bump* Fa la la la….. I apologize if you don’t get that reference, it’s from the movie, which I can recommend fairly highly!
  • I talked with a Ms. Smith on the phone(at work again), who seemed to think that someone should recognize her by her last name. Sorry to disappoint, but um….  And no, her name isn’t changed for her protection.  That is her name, and you still have no idea who she is….That makes two of us!
  • I finally made it to 100 followers….plus a little. Thanks a million!!! Well, really just a hundred, plus a few more. 😉
  • Our garden was planted…..on our dining room table.  Before you raise an eyebrow, we put them in seed-starter thingys which have a much tidier appearance then a pile of earth plopped on the table.  They (supposedly) transfer to real dirt easily.

Next week’s post should probably have something to do with knitting in it….I haven’t shared anything about that in a while now, and just realized it. *sigh* Oops.  Well, I’ll leave you in suspense about what exactly the subject shall be, but it will mostly involve needles and yarn of some sort. 🙂  I hope you had a great March, and are springing into April happily!  Until next week, TTFN- Ta ta for now!  Let me know what you did in March, I’d love to hear about it. 🙂

The Liebster Strikes Again!

If you normally read this blog, you may have noticed that I normally only post on Thursdays….or maybe you haven’t, no problem, I just thought maybe….  Anyway, something happened- I was liebstered twice in one week!  So in order to keep up here and not have two Liebster posts two weeks in a row– I’ll just do two in one week!  Isn’t that considerate of me?  I’m only thinking of my marvelous readers. 🙂

Summary of the ramble above: there will be an extra post this week. So here we go…

I would like to thank Renee, from One Sip at a Time for nominating me for my second Liebster.  I greatly, super-really, hugely appreciate it.  It would be extremely nice of you all to check out her blog(hint, hint….)  Thanks again Renee! 🙂

The rules are:

1. Thank the blogger who nominated you

2. Answer the 11 questions that they set

3. Nominate others with less than 200 followers

4. Let them know about the nomination and the questions

Here are Renee’s questions for me:

1. Favorite color?

Blue, but I also really like pink.

2. Favorite season?

Spring!

3. Do you have a hidden talent?

If I do, it’s still hidden. 😉

4. Chocolate or vanilla?

Chocolate all the way!

5. Do you have any pets? If so, what are their names?

My family has two dogs, 2 pigs(for now), lots of chickens and we just got more chicks this morning!  Our dogs are Buttercup(an English Mastiff), and Thea(a dark chocolate Lab).  The chickens don’t have names for the most part, and the pigs are still pretty young- they don’t have official names yet. 🙂

6. Do you collect anything? If so, what?

Skeins of yarn….Memories….Chocolate….(but that doesn’t hang around for long!)

7. What inspired you to blog/create your blog?

I started blogging as a way to promote my Etsy shop-  To Knit or Knot?

8. What is one thing that’s on your bucket list that you absolutely want to do in your life?

I’m not sure if there is one thing that I absolutely want to do.  Although a goal in my life(or maybe better put- the goal of my life) is to glorify God. That is the absolute goal.

9. Favorite TV/Netflix series/why?

Mork and Mindy- it’s old-ish, but worth looking up. 🙂

10. If you could travel to any place in the world, where would you go and why?

I would love to go to Scotland because of it’s scenery and history.  Other than that, my second choice would probably be Hawaii or the UK in general. 🙂  Anywhere with beautiful scenery makes me happy though.

11. Favorite pastime?

Knitting for sure!

I nominate these blogs:

A Taiwanese Girl

Semper Fidelis

Conquering My Own Castle

Dainty Little Secrets

And here are my questions for you lovely bloggers!

1.Do you have a favorite day of the week?

2. What is your favorite food?

3. Are you an early bird or a night owl?

4. How did you decide on the name of your blog?

5. What is your favorite memory?

6.Would you rather listen to a song that you intensely loathe 10 times, or a song that you love all day?

7. Who is your best friend?

8. Roses or Daisies?

9. What are three things that fill in the blank for you- “I love….”?

10. When is your favorite time of year?

11. If you had to live on an island with only one food, what would that food be?

So there is my second Liebster!  I hope you enjoy it, and have a nice weekend!!! 🙂

You Don’t Know Whatcha Got….

….Until it’s gone.

Have you experienced this truth?  Or are you just an unnaturally grateful individual? 🙂 For me, I like to think that I am thankful for many things(granted, not as much as I should be), but there are still times when this rings true in my life.  I don’t even see it coming!  In some cases, it is something that has been in my life for so long that I don’t even think about being grateful for it- it’s part of my everyday life!  I guess that means I should look for opportunities to be appreciative, huh?

Anyway…. After my slightly dramatic introduction, you are probably thinking that I had a major loss in my life.  You should be relieved to know that it’s not that at all.  It was just a little-ish thing that happened to our scenic drive on the way home.  I’ll divulge. 🙂

My family and I live in the country, if that hadn’t been made clear before.  So if you hear frequent reference to farm animals(we got our pigs last week, by the way!) or other things that would be difficult to do in a city, it’s because we live in the country!  We have to travel about fifteen minutes at least to get anywhere of consequence.  That’s just the way it is.  To some people of our acquaintance, that seems rather extreme. But after doing it for a while we got accustomed to it, and now it’s just a regular part of life.  I’m *not* taking it for granted here.  😉  Having a longer trip home, quite a few things can be done!  Knitting, reading, talking about where you are headed/coming from, relaxing in the car, just enjoying the music and thinking, knitting….There’s lots of things you can do!  Oh!  There’s also playing on your electronic device of choice, and knitting.

Now, to the part where I was taking something for granted-  Since we live in the country, you are free to assume it’s as beautiful as you want.  There are hills, trees, creeks and/or streams, curvy bumpy roads, cows on a hill(my mom loves that, because it always reminds her of Psalm 50:10), and other agricultural things.  Lots and lots of stuff to look at.  Except when you occasionally come across some fields, and it does happen sometimes, I’ll tell you that.  A neighbor we had once put it this way-  Instead of house after house, you get to drive past field after field of corn, corn, corn, beans, corn, beans, corn, and corn.  Lots of corn.  But you’ve got to have a lot of corn for all those cows!  On to the next paragraph, because I took up this one talking about corn and cows….

So before we get to the corn and cows on our way home, we drive down a highway with hills and (used to be) trees.  However, in the last week there has been a change to that.  The men in fluorescent green and orange came with their humongous toys and dug up a lot of trees and multiple front yards of the poor people who live along this highway.  I’m sure it is for a ‘good cause’, like widening the sad, little highway, with no shoulder and ruts all over the place.  At least we are hoping that’s what it is, because if it is for any less-noble reason, there will be a large amount of displeasure throughout the area.

This is what I took for granted- my scenic drive home.  Thankfully, there are other ways to get places.  But we take this route fairly frequently I would say, and it just looks so sad!  Just as everything was starting to turn green too.  In fact, just because of how awful it looks, I’ve decided that it reminds me of something like you would see in Michael Jackson’s “Earth Song” video.  I’m not saying it is that dramatic, but it’s also not just one tree cut down, or a few branches pruned.  It’s dirt being turned over for at least a mile along the current highway, and anything that happens to be on top of it being taken out as well.

I took the beauty around me as I drive places for granted.  Like I said, not a huge deal.  But, it still made me think.  Right now I’m thinking we’d better get one fancy highway out of this!  And of course that nothing should be taken for granted. 🙂  I hope you have a lovely day and enjoy everything that is in your life!

Day and Night- My Dogs

Their names aren’t Day and Night, their personalities are.  Who would’ve thought that two dogs so different could be reside in our house?  They’ve been raised the same way and experience my family’s lifestyle together every day, and yet they are two completely different animals, other than sharing the common traits of having fur and a canine mindset.

Thea is a dark chocolate Labrador and if I had to pick another animal that she acts like, it’d be a goat.  As a puppy, she ate everything, just like goats.  Dish rags, baby socks, any food that fell on the floor, a corn cob (that’s a very long story), and various things outside (I’ll leave it to your imagination, but we live on a small farm, just so you know) all disappeared without warning.  Thea still has an appetite for tissues and paper towels, but thankfully she has lost it for all the other gross, and sometimes dangerous, things she tried to eat.  Our Lab is one of the friendliest dogs I have ever met, as I’ve heard most Labradors are.  She gets so excited to meet everyone, she can hardly contain herself.  She loves to meet new people, and her favorite things to do are probably eat, chase squirrels, bark at nothing out of the ordinary, and be petted.

Then there’s Buttercup.  Buttercup’s ‘alter-animal’ would be a chicken.  It’s embarrassing.  She is an English Mastiff, and weighs at least 125 lbs (I don’t think she’d mind me sharing her weight….).  But our dog, who is commonly referred to by new acquaintances as a horse because of her size, is cowardly!  She is scared to death to meet strangers!  A huge, intimidating dog!  She is the sweetest thing around us, but that’s about the extent of her affection. I’m not sure how big she thinks she is, but it can’t be very big at all- first of all because of her fear of people, and second of all, she still thinks she can sit in our lap(s).  When we got her as a little puppy, everyone held her.  So I guess growing up with that, she still thinks it should happen.  Visualize the 125 lb. dog coming and standing in front of you while you are sitting on the sofa, then flopping sideways to get her whole body on you, your neighbor sitting next to you, and their neighbor as well!  Other times she just sits down on the sofa next to us.  However I must say, during the winter it’s quite nice to have a heated lap-warmer! 🙂  The only drawback is that she leaves cat-like hair all over the place….and it’s blonde.  Buttercup’s favorite things to do are chase cars (there’s a faded part in the grass where she runs every time), lay around, and find different ways to invade your personal space.

So, there you go- two dogs as different as can be, even in color!  I love them both, and am so grateful that God gave them to our family.

If you have time, check out my Etsy shop-  https://www.etsy.com/shop/ToKnitorKnot1013  It is without dog hair, of either color.  🙂
